The rest is well worth it
February 2020
What happen to February? Here one minute gone the next - whoosh!
I am writing this from my bed - no I haven’t got Corona virus but I have been proper poorly. Head cold, fluey and generally not feeling great although I’m enjoying the rest. Being cooped up in bed, reading, doing sudoku, eating fruit and drinking tea what’s not to like? Time out, stopping, re setting and just chilling - we all need it. Today I feel almost normal but not enough to drag my sorry arse out of my pit but enough to tell you my tales of last month.
There’s been lots of interviewing going on too. Usual troubles with my typing but I’m getting there. Five more men interviewed taking my total to 40. I’ve had to cancel this weeks chats (3) due to my dis-ease but never mind. This rest is well worth it.
The storms ‘Ciara’ and ridiculously named ‘Dennis’ came and took down two fences so once again - we were out there fixing. Thought you might appreciate me doing my bit dressed in my onesie - it’s become my everyday attire.
Recently I’ve been drawn back to my art. I dabble. I like art, I like the stories behind the artists so when I heard there was an ‘immersive multi-sensory experience’ - a what? on Van Gogh at the Southbank I grabbed my umbrella and off I went. I got to know Van Gogh through his correspondence with his brother. A vibrant, colourful and quite a lovely event. Although not an original painting in sight it’s well worth a trip.
A first for me - I attended a local menopause cafe last month - check them out: https://www.menopausecafe.net . Their aim is to generate discussion groups, increase awareness and get people together so they can share their experiences. These are free events set up by volunteers around the country. Fortunately a couple of weeks ago one was set up in South London - FANTASTIC event.
If you’re feeling low, shitty, menopausally challenged or misunderstood these events can help. Interestingly on my instagram last week a well intentioned women said ‘I can’t see what all the fuss is about. Menopause is a natural process. I feel it’s your state of mind that helps you sail through menopause…’. It’s easy to see how this comment could affect someone whose having a tough time. So these cafes are doing great work for educating people. Listening to other people’s stories is a must if you want to learn more. Find a cafe near you or better still set one up of your own. It’s very comforting, connecting and quite lovely.
My Little Free Library’s is one! Can you believe a whole year has gone by? I am happy to say it’s self seeded from the start. I do nothing apart from tidy the shelves (3o seconds) and occasionally scrub off the bird poo!
For a short month I crammed a lot in it’s no wonder I’ve taken to my bed! I’ve taken up Mahjong. Learned to make a mean Salsa Verde. Started doodling again and most unusually watched a man literally roll his car down a ditch right in front of me as he fell asleep at the wheel of his truck - lesson here, REST!
Tomorrow - meet Adam, til soon xx
