Hot Sweats!
Cherry 55, from Lancashire. Married with two grown up children and two grandchildren. Hairdresser and Karaoke queen.
How are you?
I’m alright. I’ve got my two grandkids that I look after - it’s hard work and I do like to moan and whinge, but I love it. And there’s my hairdressing. I’ve been doing that since school. It was that or the factory so I chose hairdressing. I’ve never got bored of it. I’ve been doing it for 40 years. Nowadays my clients come to my house, I wash their hair over the kitchen sink and we crack on. I love it and we have a right laugh.
What do you think about the weather?
I don’t like the wind, it’s creepy and eerie. I get the feeling that someone is trying to tell me something - it’s evil. Saying that I’m a weather addict, it’s the best topic going.
What do you think about marriage?
Once is enough (laughing). I have been with my husband for 38 years, married for 34. We’ve known each other since we were 8 years old.
Do you have any rituals?
Every morning I go downstairs, make myself a cup of tea and make the baits (packed lunches). Next, I put the washer on. I’m sure that’s every woman ritual - isn't it?
What’s your most memorable experience?
It’s a bad one. I had an abortion when I was 17. I just detached. I put myself in a bubbled and just got on with it.
What brings you down?
Hot sweats! (laughing) They're horrendous. I don’t take anything for them I don’t want HRT. I’ve heard it can give you breast cancer. There’s a mild anti-depressant you can get, I might look into that.
What do you like about yourself?
I like a lot about myself. I’m getting more confident the older I get. I like my body too. I work at it though. I like my legs, my boobs and my bum.
How do you see yourself?
If I think I’m right then I stand my ground. I might sulk and sleep in the back bedroom but I always stand my ground.
I like to enjoy life. I like to help other people and I like to live life to the full. I believe if you’ve 'owt to say - say it. Get it off your chest - don’t bare a grudge.
How do you best express yourself?
By dancing and singing. I love taking over the Karaoke!
Who or what inspires you?
I like moments when I can light a candle, either at home where it’s more private or in a church; it’s very calming. When my brother died I felt very connected to him by going into a church and lighting a candle. I get great satisfaction from it.
What do you think about life?
I don’t know what life is. Have we been put here for a reason, is this the norm? I know one thing, we have to help one another not fight against each other.
What do you think about death?
For me it’s just like having a cup of coffee. I don’t think it phases me anymore. We’re here one minute and gone the next. When someone's gone, they're gone. I still wonder why?
Are you Free?
YES!
