I don’t think it’s a mid life crisis

Meg 47 from Brighton. Separated, jewellery designer with two kids.

How are you?

Fucked up and severely struggling. I don’t think it’s an age thing. I don’t think it’s a mid life crisis - I don’t know what it is!

What brings you down?

Realising I was gay and falling in love with someone I shouldn't have has got me down but it’s the most fantastic thing that’s ever happened to me. The leak in my kitchen sink, the washing pile, my husband, having no family support, my mother in law, oh, too many things to being me down!

How do you see yourself?

Broken, a mess, happy, content. I know I want to spend the rest of my life with her. I am madly in love and it’s really painful. Who’d have thought at my age? It’s all quite harrowing and it has knocked me for six. I feel alive, it’s a very difficult position to be in. I’ve never felt like this before, when you connect, you let go. It’s not about the sex -  it’s about the connection.

What do you think about life?

You're here for such a short time, make the most of it. It’s complicated, we don’t make the most of life and I don’t understand why not. I think to leave life knowing you've been good and kind is pretty monumental.

Are you free?

No I have girlfriend, two kids and a husband.

What have you thought about doing this process today?

It’s better than a session with a counsellor. It’s really weird - I haven't been able to talk about my situation but today I have worked through a few things and I feel clearer. I found the questions difficult to answer.  You’d think they would be simple but they're not! It's been difficult but very cleansing.
