I know him better than he knows himself
Libby 57 married. Works full time in a school as a teaching Assistant. She has two children and two grandchildren.
How are you?
Life is good.
How do you think about marriage?
We are good friends. We don’t argue much. Mind you, you know when one is coming. We tell each other everything. I know him better than he knows himself.
What do you think about children?
I cannot imagine my life without them.
How do you think other people see you?
People tend to think I’ve got it all. Apparently, I give the impression that all is rosy in my garden. People's perceptions are odd. They think just because my husband drives a taxi for a living that we’re loaded. They don’t see the bigger picture.
What brings you down?
I’m not a down person. I have all that I want and don’t need for anything. I don’t moan, there’s no point, it doesn’t get you anywhere.
What are your dreams, what makes you tick?
I am very passionate about the way you should talk to children. I’ve been doing my job for 26 years. I feel very lucky that I still enjoy it. I don’t enjoy the people in charge but I’m never far from a holiday.
I would have loved to have been a midwife. I’ve never understood it when people say “you need experience”. How can you get experience unless you’re doing the job?
How do you see yourself?
I’m a good friend to people. Loyal with a generous spirit. Sometimes my kindness can be seen as a pushover but I don’t have the time to argue. Therefore I can be fair weathered friend to some - I don’t go to work to make friends.
What do you like about yourself?
I don’t like what I look like but I’m too lazy to do anything about it. I could go on a diet but I just buy bigger clothes. I have more to worry about than getting into a size 12 again. If my health suffered then I would.
I like that I’m up beat and I’ve always been like that. Life is too short. I don’t have any regrets if I want to do something I’ll do it. Actually, I wouldn’t mind going to Australia but I hate flying so that's not going to happen. I’m happy with my lot.
How do you best express yourself?
I shout, not that it has any impact!
What do you think about life?
My life is my family and my friends. The things I hold dear to me.
What do you think about death?
Unfortunately, there’s been a lot in my family of late. If anything it gets harder. When I lost my brother it knocked me for six. I do feel very sad when people lose their mum and dads.
What would you like to leave for the next generation?
For my kids to be happy as I have been. It’s too easy to take things for granted. We are living in a “I want it now” generation and that will cause innumerable problems.
Are you free?
Yes. I’m not beholden to anyone. I am my own person. I don’t need permission and I don’t seek to get it.
