How are you?
I’ve had a rough time recently, my brother has just died. Certain things bring it home. For example when I see a photo of the pair of us when we first came to England back in the 60’s when we were just kids. He was a year older than me. After his wife left him he completely changed. He got very bitter. We were still close, but had drifted.
I feel good now my son has settled down, got a house, a job and three kids. That gives me peace of mind. My wife worries me. If she phones me in the day I panic. I automatically think something's wrong. I couldn't lose her. I nearly lost her five years ago. She had pneumonia. They called me at 2am saying she was in ICU, breathless and blue. The doctors were running around trying to figure out what was going on. She takes a lot of medication and they’d clashed with the pneumonia drugs. And my mum, she’s 89 and has dementia. One minute you're talking, having a laugh and joke then she says, ‘Those birds are back’. I say - What birds? ‘Those ones on top of the wardrobe. Give them some bread!’.
