How are you?

It’s not the most smooth running period of time. There’s been two deaths and we’ve had a break in. There’s something changing in my universe. There’s quite a lot of poorly people around me at the moment and it brings it home. I’m not as strong physically as I was. I find it hard to lift things. I’m worried about osteoporosis and my sex drive has diminished!

What do you think about the weather?

I love the drama of a thunder storm. I worry about nature being affected by the weather. What will happen to the worms, beetles and the hedgehogs?

How do you see yourself?

I’m an ordinary person not a leader, high flyer or well known person and I’m happy and content with that. I once saw written on a sculpture the words “Amongst the tall grasses anonymous flowers bloom”  - I like that.

How do you feel about marriage?

I like that I’m in a happy marriage. I’m fortunate - it’s definitely meant to be. Someone once told me 'There is no such thing as a happy ending to marriage, marriage starts with happiness and ends in tears' and it's true, one of you will go first.

Who or what inspires you?

Nature inspires me. I love the trees and the way the light shines through them - it’s magical. Termites and elephants fascinate me and I love the process that the elephant knocks down a tree, the termites chews it up and return the goodness to the ground creating fertile soil. The elephant poo along with many more of its wonderful ecological attributes becomes a home for seeds to flourish and so the cycle begins and new tress grow. It's the tiny and large creatures involved in each others survival that I love.

What is your most memorable experience?

My son being born. He was the surprise at the end of the labour, all of a sudden he was there. When the doctor said 'You can touch him' I was overwhelmed with tears of joy - a great release of emotion.

What do you think about life?

Life for me is what I’ve got. It’s just what it is. You get stuck in a rhythm then something happens and it all changes. I think that’s a good thing. Life is my immediate family; my husband, children and my friends. I am quite happy for life to continue as it is. At the end of the day if we look back, we just live as humans. It’s nothing outstanding and nothing bad. I don’t feel there has to be a reason for me to be here. I don’t have to achieve any goals that will be remembered in history or anything. I don’t feel a need to be remembered. I think we are an accident of nature and because humans can communicate where other living things can’t we have got out of control. Man has taken his toll on the earth but nature has a way of dealing with it.
