Take time to listen, nobody gives time anymore
Charlotte 42 Single, from Lancashire. One grown up child. Works full time as a waitress. She lives in London.
How are you?
I am really good - with life and myself. I feel perfectly content.
What experiences have had lasting impression?
I was eleven when I started my periods and they were very heavy and went on for a long time. Why didn't my Mum talk to me? She was angry. I felt so embarrassed. I bought my own sanitary towels. I never had enough underwear and I used to hide the dirty ones in the drawer.
When I was twenty I got pregnant. I went to the doctor and he said “you’re a stupid girl”.
How do you think other people see you?
I think people who don’t know me well think I’m a bit miserable; a bit of a “Billy no mates”. The ones that do know me know I'm up for anything and alway have time for people.
What are your dreams?
I have an affirmation on my fridge it says “Turning actions into goals”. Eventually I want to own my own place in Portugal. I lived there for many years and one day I would like to go back and maybe write my own book.
How do you see yourself?
Hardworking, very loyal and fun. I am dedicated to what I do. I follow things through until the end.
Who or what inspires you?
The need to make money inspires me. My home is everything. You have to have a comfortable home.
What do you think about life?
My life is my Son. He’s everything to me. He needs to be ok before I go and do my thing. Life is about being happy and comfortable. It has its ups and downs. Life is what’s happening whilst you're making plans.
What would you like to leave for the next generation?
For a wiser person to come along and help sort out the problems of the world. Take time to listen, nobody gives time anymore - have patience.
